PM Modi begins his three-nation visit to Japan, Australia, Papua New Guinea
India is eyeing to tremendously increase its influence in the Indo-Pacific region in the years to come. With that vision, PM Modi has taken on a six-day visit to Japan, Australia, and Papua New Guinea. He will be attending three key multilateral meetings, which include QUAD and G7, according to ANI. Japan, which is hosting the G7 meeting this year, invited India to participate at this key geopolitical event. The Prime Minister’s visit to Australia will focus on India’s QUAD commitments, despite Joe Biden cancelling his own visit.
All the QUAD nations were to visit Papua New Guinea during their meeting to align the island nation with their strategic interests. However, Biden called off the meeting at the last minute due to the mounting debt crisis in the United States. However, experts are calling this decision a major blunder from the American President as his presence as the most influential member of the QUAD was necessary to invite countries like Papua New Guinea to increase its ties with the bloc. However, PM Modi has made sure to mark India’s presence in the country to counter the Chinese aggression in the region.
