Tesla in talks with Indian govt. officials over car, battery manufacturing incentives
Tesla has been making efforts to introduce their cars to the Indian market but haven’t succeeded till date. The discussion around this objective has continued for a while now without any results, but it appears that this discussion may reach a positive outcome soon. Reuters recently has reported that Tesla is communicating with top government officials to set up a manufacturing plant in India for both, their electrical vehicles and their car batteries with the help of government incentives.
One of the major reasons why the EV automobile giant has delayed its entry in India is because they wanted the government to lower their taxes on imported cars. This is because they wanted to check the potential their cars have in the Indian market. But the Indian government hasn’t acted on this demand. Furthermore, the government has been tough on any items manufactured in China, which includes the lithium batteries used in Tesla cars. However, providing the company enough incentives to set up manufacturing plants in the country can potentially solve both these persisting problems.
