Declining Appraisals in Indian Appraisal system across various corporate deployments in India
Dehradun-based engineer Akshay Saini has stirred-up the social media frenzy with his outspoken views on India’s corporate appraisal system. Saini criticized the appraisal process, labeling it a farce. He lamented the meager internal promotions and salary increments prevalent in Indian companies, often in single-digit percentages, failing to match the rising cost of living. Saini’s blunt advice: switch jobs for significant salary growth. He highlighted the struggle even for above-average engineers to secure substantial pay raises within their current roles, advocating job hopping as the primary path to financial advancement.
“If you’re underpaid, it’s YOUR fault,” Saini urged users to recognize, cautioning against greediness and emphasizing the lack of a cure for greed.
Saini’s message struck a chord with many professionals, particularly those in the IT sector, who shared similar experiences of stagnant salaries and unmet promises during appraisal cycles. While acknowledging the potential benefits of job switching for higher salaries, some users advised careful consideration of other factors like job satisfaction, career growth opportunities, and stability implications associated with frequent job changes. They also cautioned against the loss of real experience and deep knowledge that can result from too-frequent job switches.
